Pastor Joan Oleson

Pastor Joan Oleson grew up in Fowlerville and Clawson, MI where her father served as a Lutheran pastor. After graduating from Clawson High School, Pastor Joan attended and graduated from Capital University in Columbus, OH. She then moved to Williston, North Dakota where she served as the Christian Education Director of First Lutheran Church for three years. Returning to school after being asked by the North/West Lower Michigan Synod to develop a mission in the Jenison/Hudsonville area, Pastor Oleson graduated from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, OH in 1996 and was ordained at her parish, Christ, Wyoming, MI. She continued to work as developer and then was called as first pastor of Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Hudsonville, MI, serving from 1990-2007. In October of 2007 she was installed as pastor of Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, MI.

Pastor Joan was married in 1978 to Jim, a certified public accountant and North Dakota native. Jim works for ACSET (Area Community Services Employment & Training Council) in Grand Rapids, MI. They have four grown daughters, Erika (Massachusetts), Heather (Minnesota), Alissa (Illinois), and Gretchen (Wisconsin).

Pastor Oleson’s interests include flower gardening, music, icons, and spending time with family.

Denise Cook – Financial Secretary
Denise was raised in Berrien Springs and attended Trinity Lutheran Church there as well as Trinity Lutheran School from first through eighth grade. While attending Berrien Springs High School she took a job at a small accounting firm and remained there for approximately two years after graduation. From there she landed a job as a receptionist at United Die Cast Corp in Benton Harbor. While employed at United Die Cast she also attended Lake Michigan College. During her 10 years at United her job duties evolved into accounting and office management. In 1989 she left United Die Cast to take a similar position at Hoffmann Die Cast Corp. where she remained for 13 years.
In 1990 she married Steve who is the manager of the HVAC division at City Plumbing and Heating. In 1992 their only child Tyler was born. About 10 years after Tyler's birth, Denise left employment at Hoffmann Die Cast Corporation to concentrate her efforts on raising Tyler. During the next few years she performed part-time computer and office management work from home and also took on the position of Financial Secretary at Saron. In 2006 Denise was appointed to fill the position of clerk on the St. Joseph Charter Township Board of Trustees. She has since been elected to that position in 2008 and also in 2012. Denise and her family have been members at Saron for about 11 years.
Denise's interests include cooking, movies, dining out, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Irma Gorman - Organist
Irma Gorman is a lifelong member of Saron Lutheran Church and is proud to serve as the organist for her church family. She grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan where she sang in the Saron choir, was confirmed by Pastor Victorson, and graduated from Benton Harbor High School. Irma attended Elmhurst College, a private college outside of Chicago, for her bachelor's degree, and holds a Master's Degree in Music from Michigan State University.
Today, Irma stays busy teaching as a substitute at her alma mater, Benton Harbor High School. In her free time she enjoys gardening, supporting the local arts through Southwest Michigan Symphony and Monday Musical involvement, and serving as the lodge secretary for the local Vasa Order of America, a Swedish heritage organization.

Marcus Roll - Choir Director
Marcus Roll, tenor, is in his third year as Choir Director at Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Michigan. In his second year at Southwestern Michigan College, Roll serves as Adjunct Professor of Voice, also teaching two levels of Music History, and Jazz and Pop music in America. Roll can also be seen on a regular basis as Music Director for Children’s Musical Workshop. Recently serving as the Director of Music and Orchestra Conductor for Down State Left’s production of the Phantom of the Opera, Roll hopes to continue educating Southwest Michigan area high school students in the performing arts. No stranger to the stage himself, Roll has an extensive performing background including, musical theatre, collegiate light opera, oratorio, and countless choral masterworks. Roll has performed over seas in Ireland, France, and most recently China. Performing regularly in Southwest Michigan, Roll is a member of the Citadel Symphony Chorus, and the Dogwood Chorale, both under the direction of David Carew of Southwestern Michigan College. Roll holds a Bachelors degree in voice from Central Michigan University where he studied under Dr. Erik Tucker, and Professor Cora Enman. Continuing his education at CMU he earned a Master of Music in Choral Conducting where he studied with the esteemed Dr. Nina Nash-Robertson.
A native of Mid-Michigan, Roll has been enjoying beautiful Southwest Michigan for three years now, living happily in St. Joseph with his wife Elizabeth, dogs Rupert and Duncan, and cat Arthur.

Margaret Ann Froehlich - Administrative Assistant
Margaret, the youngest of four children, grew up on the family farm in Sodus, MI. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1959 and took some business courses at Lake Michigan College while working at Heath Company. She worked there for nine years before meeting and marrying David Froehlich in 1966; a year later she was a stay-at-home mom.
Together they raised their children, Lisa and David Jr. Before coming to Saron as church secretary in 1981, she worked at Whirlpool Corporation for 2 years, as well as in the family owned grocery store, Froehlich’s Little Super in St. Joseph, MI. After closing the store, David became a Thrivent Financial Representative for 18 years before retiring in 2003.
Margaret has enjoyed her 30 + years at Saron, meeting and helping members. She and Dave are members of Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, MI.
Margaret enjoys spending time with her family, three grandsons, swimming, traveling to historic places in the United States, and entertaining family and friends at their home.
