Pastor Joan Oleson

Pastor Joan Oleson has served as pastor of Saron since October of 2007.  One of six siblings, Pastor Joan grew up in Fowlerville and Clawson, MI where her father served as a Lutheran pastor.  After graduating from Clawson High School, Pastor Joan attended and graduated from Capital University in Columbus, OH.  She then moved to Williston, North Dakota where she served as the Christian Education Director of First Lutheran Church for three years.  It is there that she met her spouse, Jim, a certified public accountant, and North Dakota native.  She is a graduate of Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH.


Prior to serving with the good people of Saron, she was the mission developer and pastor of Bread of Life Lutheran Church in Hudsonville, MI for seventeen years.  Pastor Joan has a deep desire to make people feel welcome and included. 


Pastor Joan enjoys spending time with her family, which includes their four grown daughters, three sons-in-law, 2 step-grandchildren, and a new grandbaby, all of whom live out-of-town.  She also appreciates a nice walk and tinkering in her rose garden.


Pastor Joan’s favorite Bible verse is “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”  Isaiah 43:1b

Megan Savage – Financial Secretary

Megan grew up in South Haven Michigan, and was active in the band and music programs throughout school. After graduation, she attended Western Michigan University, where she graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She currently works at Chemical Bank in St. Joseph, as a trust administrator in the Wealth Management department.

Megan is a member of Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven, where she also serves as the Financial Secretary. In her free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, catching a Cleveland Indians baseball game, shopping and spending time with family and friends.

Irma Gorman - Organist
Irma Gorman is a lifelong member of Saron Lutheran Church and is proud to serve as the organist for her church family. She grew up in Benton Harbor, Michigan where she sang in the Saron choir, was confirmed by Pastor Victorson, and graduated from Benton Harbor High School. Irma attended Elmhurst College, a private college outside of Chicago, for her bachelor's degree, and holds a Master's Degree in Music from Michigan State University.

In her free time she enjoys gardening, supporting the local arts through Southwest Michigan Symphony and Monday Musical involvement, and serving as the lodge secretary for the local Vasa Order of America, a Swedish heritage organization.

Irma has four grown children: Todd, Tedd, Brad, and Lorelei, who were all confirmed at Saron.

Marcus Roll - Choir Director
Marcus Roll, tenor, is in his third year as Choir Director at Saron Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Michigan. In his second year at Southwestern Michigan College, Roll serves as Adjunct Professor of Voice, also teaching two levels of Music History, and Jazz and Pop music in America. Roll can also be seen on a regular basis as Music Director for Children’s Musical Workshop. Recently serving as the Director of Music and Orchestra Conductor for Down State Left’s production of the Phantom of the Opera, Roll hopes to continue educating Southwest Michigan area high school students in the performing arts. No stranger to the stage himself, Roll has an extensive performing background including, musical theatre, collegiate light opera, oratorio, and countless choral masterworks. Roll has performed over seas in Ireland, France, and most recently China.

Performing regularly in Southwest Michigan, Roll is a member of the Citadel Symphony Chorus, and the Dogwood Chorale, both under the direction of David Carew of Southwestern Michigan College. Roll holds a Bachelors degree in voice from Central Michigan University where he studied under Dr. Erik Tucker, and Professor Cora Enman. Continuing his education at CMU he earned a Master of Music in Choral Conducting where he studied with the esteemed Dr. Nina Nash-Robertson.

A native of Mid-Michigan, Roll has been enjoying beautiful Southwest Michigan for three years now, living happily in St. Joseph with his wife Elizabeth, dogs Rupert and Duncan, and cat Arthur.

Margaret Ann Froehlich - Administrative Assistant
Margaret, the youngest of four children, grew up on the family farm in Sodus, MI. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1959 and took some business courses at Lake Michigan College while working at Heath Company. She worked there for nine years before meeting and marrying David Froehlich in 1966; a year later she was a stay-at-home mom.

Together they raised their children, Lisa and David Jr. Before coming to Saron as church secretary in 1981, she worked at Whirlpool Corporation for 2 years, as well as in the family owned grocery store, Froehlich’s Little Super in St. Joseph, MI. After closing the store, David became a Thrivent Financial Representative for 18 years before retiring in 2003.

Margaret has enjoyed her 30+ years at Saron, meeting and helping members. She and Dave are members of Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, MI. Margaret enjoys spending time with her family, three grandsons, swimming, traveling to historic places in the United States, and entertaining family and friends at their home.

Emily Gaul - Childcare Provider
Emily is a graduate of St. Joseph High School. She is attending Lake Michigan College studying elementary education. Aside from school, Emily works as a nanny.
